Delphine's concrete driveway near the San Gabriel River moves with the seasons, and her last post had leaned. For a 14 ft double leaf, galvanized steel in black powder coat, we fitted ball-bearing hinges and battery backup on deeper footings, an estimated $4,600 to $6,400 over an estimated 2 to 3 days.

Quinn in Rollingwood needed a car to stop fully off the street, so we hung a 14 ft laser-cut double leaf set back for car length and opening away from the street, an estimated $5,200 to $7,000 job done in an estimated 2 to 3 days.

Ulysses in Lost Creek asked for a 12 ft galvanized double leaf, and we drew it only after pulling the section's deed restrictions, an estimated $4,200 to $5,800 job over an estimated 2 to 3 days. Kasper in Serenada Country Estates needed an 18 ft double swing with a Knox box under his deed restrictions, an estimated $6,000 to $7,800 job over an estimated 2 to 3 days.

Swing, Slide or Cantilever for Your Drive

A swing gate fits a drive with room in front of the fence, a ground-track slider fits a drive that slopes toward the street, and a trackless cantilever fits a gravel drive where a track would clog. The table compares what we install by estimated cost and duration.

Driveway Gate Rules and Safety in Georgetown

A Georgetown driveway gate starts with the street, because the unified development code limits front yard fences to 4 ft and asks for at least 50 percent transparency, and it keeps anything over 3 ft and 25 percent solid out of the 25 ft sight triangle where two streets meet. Inside Sun City Texas, perimeter work usually needs the Modifications Committee and a city permit, so we draw to both before fabrication. Rules can differ by deed restrictions, which is why Ulysses in Lost Creek had his restrictions pulled before we drew a thing.

Automatic gates need their own safety hardware as well. The Door and Access Systems Manufacturers Association's guidance says most installations need at least two independent entrapment protection means in each direction and asks for a separate pedestrian opening, so we pair a driveway leaf with a pedestrian entry gate when people will walk in. Texas 811 needs notice before any post hole is dug. Confirm current rules with the city before you commit.

Our Driveway Gate Installation Process

The process runs in the same order on every drive:

  1. Measure: we check the opening, the slope, the setback and the street rules.
  2. Fabricate: welded in our Georgetown shop from G90 hot-dip galvanized tube, then a zinc-phosphate primer and an electrostatic polyester powder coat 3 to 5 mils thick.
  3. Set posts: posts go 24 to 36 inches deep in concrete, sized to the soil, with deeper footings where the ground moves.
  4. Hang and automate: ball-bearing barrel hinges, a 24V DC continuous-duty operator sized to the leaf, gate catchers and positive travel stops.
  5. Test: monitored photo eyes and edge sensors, an entrapment test, then the remotes and keypad.

East of I-35 the Blackland clay holds water and moves, while west of it the limestone shelf stops a hole short, so we check the ground on site before we quote the footing.

Driveway Gate Cost in Georgetown

A single-leaf swing gate with operator is estimated at $2,500 to $5,000 installed and an automated dual swing at $4,000 to $8,000, and the opening width, the slope and the automation move the price most.

Gate Materials and Related Pages

Our shop builds in several metals, from steel gate installation and custom driveway gate fabrication to wrought iron gates and automatic driveway gates. Octavia off Bee Cave Road chose a 16 ft double leaf in forged steel with limestone columns, an estimated $6,800 to $7,900 job over an estimated 2 to 3 days, after her ESD 9 letter.

Why Georgetown Owners Hire Our Shop

Our owner walks the drive with you before a drawing is made, and the crew that measures your opening sets the gate and tests the operator. Operators carry the maker's parts warranty, usually 1 to 5 years on motors and boards, and where trenching power is not practical, a solar panel with dual-battery backup runs the operator. Across 1,412 projects the pattern holds from Williams Drive to Sun City Texas: most callbacks on other crews' gates trace to a shallow footing, not the motor.

Driveway Gate Questions Georgetown Owners Ask

How much does driveway gate installation cost in Georgetown?

Expect an estimated $2,500 to $5,000 installed for an automated single swing gate and $4,000 to $8,000 for a dual swing, with the final price set by your written quote after the site visit.

How long does installation take?

Most automated swing gates take an estimated 1 to 3 days on site after the gate is built in our shop, as with Delphine's 14 ft pair near the San Gabriel River.

Swing or sliding gate for my drive?

Swing suits a drive with setback, as Quinn's did in Rollingwood, while a slider suits a sloped or tight drive, and we measure before recommending.

Will the gate open in a power outage?

Yes, battery backup powers our operators, and each automatic gate keeps a manual release.

Do I need a permit in Georgetown?

Often yes, because front yard height and transparency limits apply and Sun City Texas adds its Modifications Committee, so we confirm the rules for your address first.

Is it possible to add an operator to a gate we already have?

Yes, an operator retrofit is estimated at $1,800 to $3,800, and we add photo eyes and edge sensors with it, the way Cyrus's Williams Drive gate was done.
