Lucinda in Serenada, off Williams Drive, had a long drive where deliveries kept stopping at the gate and the family had to walk down to open it. We fitted a video intercom with phone entry and a delivery code that works for one day, an estimated $1,500 to $3,400 job that took an estimated 4 to 7 hours. Packages now arrive at the house without a walk to the gate.

Lucinda's was an existing gate with new access hardware on a single entry off Williams Drive, so nothing was rebuilt. Winston in Sunset Valley, off Brodie Lane, runs six gates across one property, where three had been stuck open for months, so his access hardware sits on top of a monthly inspection with lubrication, sensors and limit checks that logs when each gate was last tested, an estimated $560 to $650 in an estimated 1 to 3 hours.

Which Entry Option Fits Your Gate?

Every option talks to the same operator, so owners in Steiner Ranch and West Lake Hills choose by who arrives and how often. The table sets the common ones side by side for Georgetown and Round Rock owners.

Entry optionBest forWhat to know
KeypadFamily and regular staffOne code per person, easy to change
Video intercomDeliveries and visitorsAnswers on your phone from anywhere
Long-range RFID readerCars that come and go dailyOpens as the car rolls up
Phone entryGuests and short visitsCodes can expire after one day

A keypad is the cheapest start, and many owners add the intercom later because the same wire run serves both. A full intercom with phone entry sits higher on the price scale. Serenada and Steiner Ranch owners on long drives usually choose the intercom, because it answers on the phone while they are away from the house.

Fire Access and Safety Rules That Shape the Install

Access hardware does not replace the entrapment protection on the operator, a point we repeat on every Lost Creek and Sunset Valley job. DASMA's guidance says most installations still need at least two independent entrapment protection means in each direction, and a gate manufacturer's safety summary puts controls at least 6 ft from the gate. Gates across fire lanes may also need a Knox key switch or Opticom receiver, as the fire marshal requires, so we ask about emergency access before we set a code. Confirm current rules with the city before you commit, whether you live in Rollingwood or Volente.

How We Install Access Control

The work follows one order on every gate:

  1. Inspect: we read the operator's make in Cedar Park or Round Rock and check its input terminals.
  2. Run: low-voltage wire goes in conduit to the post or pedestal, with posts set 24 to 36 inches deep in concrete, sized to the soil on the lot.
  3. Mount: the keypad or intercom is set at the driver's window height, the same in Leander as in Cedar Park.
  4. Program: codes, schedules and the delivery window are loaded, as they were for Lucinda in Serenada.
  5. Test: we call the intercom, use every code and confirm the gate stops on contact, even on a 45-mile run out to Lost Creek.

Cell coverage matters at the far end of a long drive in Steiner Ranch or Volente, so we test the signal at the post before we choose a model. Where trenching power is not practical, a solar panel with dual-battery backup keeps the keypad alive, and 24V DC continuous-duty operators sized to the leaf keep the gate moving.

Gate Access Control Cost in Georgetown

Access control with a video intercom and phone entry is estimated at $1,500 to $3,400 on a single entry, the range Lucinda's Serenada job landed in, and the number of entry points, the wire distance and the intercom model move the price most.

Gate Access Control Materials and Related Pages

Access control rides on an operator, so owners without one start with gate operator installation, and owners far from the house pair it with solar gate operators. Our automatic driveway gates page covers a full new system, our steel gate installation page covers the leaf itself, and a walk-in path may need its own pedestrian entry gate.

Why Choose Our Crew for Gate Access Control

After 11 years and 1,412 projects across a 45-mile radius, we have seen the same mistake often: a smart intercom wired to a gate that has no entrapment protection. Our gate automation technician tests every code and every sensor before she leaves, and the owner still reviews the larger jobs himself. Georgetown owners know who to call because the workmanship warranty, 3 years on welds, hinge alignment, gate sag and gate travel, stays with the gate. In West Lake Hills and Rollingwood we pair each intercom with monitored photo eyes plus edge sensors on every automatic gate.

Gate Access Control Questions

How much does gate access control cost in Georgetown?

A single-entry intercom job is estimated at $1,500 to $3,400, and your written quote fixes the final price.

How long does the install take?

Most installs take an estimated 4 to 7 hours, as Lucinda's Serenada job did.

Can I let a delivery driver in while I am away?

Yes, a phone-entry delivery code can work for one day, as it does for Lucinda.

Does it work on my existing gate?

Usually yes, if the operator has input terminals, and across our 45-mile radius from Georgetown to Lost Creek we check that at the site visit.

Will a power cut lock the gate shut?

No, every operator has a manual release, and in Rollingwood or Sunset Valley we can add a solar panel with dual-battery backup.

Do I need a permit?

Often the gate falls under city fence rules in Georgetown or Cedar Park, and a gate across a fire lane follows the fire marshal, so we check your address first.
