Josephine's backyard in the Leander Station area of Leander had a wood fence with a gap at one corner, which left the pool yard open to the street side. We installed a 140 ft pool enclosure in powder-coated aluminum and hung a self-closing, self-latching gate that opens outward, with the latch set high enough to meet the state rule. The job was an estimated $4,800 to $5,900 and typically took 2 to 3 days, quick work for a 140 ft pool enclosure in Leander.

What Texas Requires of a Pool Yard Enclosure

Texas Health and Safety Code section 757.003 sets the enclosure rules, and they decide how every panel is cut. The enclosure must stand at least 48 inches from the ground on the side away from the pool. Nothing under it may let a 4 inch sphere pass. Where horizontal members sit less than 45 inches apart, or where the openings are decorative, the limit tightens to 1-3/4 inches. Chain link is prohibited for enclosures built after January 1, 1994.

Section 757.004 covers the pool yard gate. The gate must self-close and self-latch, carry hardware that can lock, and open outward, away from the pool yard. The latch must sit at least 60 inches above the ground, except under the conditions the statute lists. We cite these sections from a public copy of the statute, so confirm the current text with your city before you build, and note that your city may add its own permit step.

Gate Hardware That Passes the Walk-Through

A pool gate fails more often on hardware than on height, even on a clean 140 ft pool enclosure. A closer that is set too weak lets the gate drift, and a latch set too low defeats the 60 inch rule. We hang gates on ball-bearing barrel hinges sized to the leaf weight, set a spring or hydraulic closer so the gate returns without a push, and mount a lockable latch at the height the statute names. Then we open and release the gate ten times in front of you, because a gate that closes only when watched is not a safety device.

Aluminum pool fence is generally estimated at $30 to $45 a linear foot, and a pool yard with one gate and two corners lands near the middle of that range. Steel costs more per foot than aluminum because the posts and rails are heavier and need the full powder coat system, so welded ornamental fence is estimated at $50 to $85 a linear foot in Cedar Park and Round Rock alike.

Aluminum, Steel or Fixing a Wood Fence

Most owners in Leander, Cedar Park and Georgetown pick between a new aluminum barrier, a steel one, and a repair that closes a gap in the fence already standing. The right answer depends on the corner you must fix and the look you want.

OptionStrengthWatch for
Powder-coated aluminumLight panels that do not rustFewer decorative options than forged iron
Galvanized steel with powder coatHeavy, hard to climb, long livedA scratch through the coat should be touched up
Gap repair in a wood fenceCheapest when only one corner is openThe wood must still hold a 48 inch barrier and a code gate

Pool Fence Mistakes That Fail Inspection

The common failures are a gate that opens toward the pool, a latch below 60 inches, a picket gap wider than the sphere, and a chain link section left in an older fence in Sunset Valley or Serenada. Another is a gap under the panels where a lawn slopes away. We hold ground clearance to 2 to 3 inches over lawn grade, so a stepped panel is closed with a bottom rail instead of a hole.

What Every Pool Barrier Includes

Steel Tubing Gauge & Wall Thickness
posts of 11-gauge to 3/16-inch, rails of 14-gauge and pickets of 16-gauge on everything we fabricate
Protective Coating & Finishing Process
Multi-stage wash, zinc-phosphate primer and electrostatic polyester powder coat, 3 to 5 mils thick
Corrosion Protection (Hot-Dip Galvanizing vs Pre-Galvanized)

Post Footing Depth & Concrete Anchor Specifications
Posts set 24 to 36 inches deep in concrete, sized to the soil on the lot
Picket Spacing & Child/Pet Safety Gap
3.5 to 3.875 inches clear between pickets

Ball-bearing barrel hinges sized to the leaf weight
Slope Racking vs Stepping Capability
Rackable panels follow a slope; steps are used where the grade is too steep to rack
Picket Finial & Security Top Style
Spear, triad, flare, fleur-de-lis or flat-top finials, chosen per lot and per city rule
Bottom Ground Clearance
2 to 3 inches of clearance above lawn grade, less over paved drives

Why Pool Owners Choose a Shop That Welds Its Own Gates

A shop that welds its own gates controls the part that fails, and across 11 years we have hung pool gates in Round Rock, Steiner Ranch and Volente. Over 11 years and 1,412 projects, the pool jobs that came back were never the panels; they were the closers and latches that someone else installed. Our owner checks every pool gate before the crew leaves, and the 3-year workmanship warranty covers hinge alignment and gate sag on the gates we hang.

Pool Fence Service Areas Around Georgetown

We install pool barriers across a 45-mile radius, with frequent work in Leander, Cedar Park and Round Rock. Steiner Ranch owners on Lake Travis ask how a pool fence follows a hillside yard and which association form to file first. Volente lots often sit on steep ground where the fence must step down in sections. West Lake Hills owners are asked for muted finishes on anything the street can see, so we offer a matte black powder coat on every pool panel. Rollingwood owners ask how a gate must swing relative to the street, so we draw the leaf to open parallel to or away from the curb. Serenada properties answer to deed restrictions and the county fire marshal, not a city. Lost Creek owners check their section's deed restrictions before we draw a gate, because an easement can also cross the back of a lot. Sunset Valley owners ask about the aquifer recharge zone before any post hole is dug. All of them are listed on our service area page.
