Our team provides wiring, limit setting and keypad programming, delivering a gate that opens from the car for homes and dependable access for both residential and commercial projects. Every gate operator installation job is warrantied for 3 years on welds, hinge alignment, gate sag and gate travel, and our 11 years of work and over 1,412 projects, a 4 ft walk gate to a 200 ft perimeter run, are the record behind that.

From checking the leaf's weight and hinge wear to the final entrapment test, our team handles the job from start to finish. Serving Georgetown and neighboring Round Rock, Leander, Serenada and Cedar Park, we make an old manual gate open on a button and stop on contact.

Cyrus on the Williams Drive corridor hand-dragged a 12 ft single leaf open every morning, so we fitted a continuous-duty operator with photo eyes on both sides and a keypad, an estimated $2,100 to $3,200 job that took an estimated 5 to 7 hours. The old gate now opens from the car and stops on contact.

Sebastian on the north shore of Lake Travis needed a new operator on a 12 ft swing leaf after the old unit corroded, and we added a sealed housing, new limit switches and photo eyes in an estimated 4 to 8 hours for an estimated $1,900 to $3,000. Nadine's solar operator went on a 12 ft double leaf at Rocky Ridge in Steiner Ranch.

Can an Operator Go on Any Gate?

Most steel swing and slide gates can take an operator, but the leaf has to swing or roll freely by hand first. Our Round Rock and Cedar Park crews pair 24V DC continuous-duty operators sized to the leaf with ball-bearing barrel hinges sized to the leaf weight, because a dragging leaf burns out a motor. The table shows what we check before we quote.

Gate conditionWhat we doOperator fit
Heavy steel leaf on sound hingesSize a 24V DC operator to the weightGood retrofit
Sagging leaf or leaning postReset the post and hinges firstRepair, then operator
Thin pipe frame from a builderRebuild the leaf in heavier tubeReplace the gate

A gate that fails this hand test is not a bad candidate, it is a gate that needs hardware work first, and our gate replacement page covers the cases where a new leaf is the cheaper route.

Photo Eyes, Edges and Reverse Tests on Georgetown Gate Operators

Every vehicle gate operator we install gets monitored photo eyes, edge sensors and a reverse test, and DASMA's guidance says most installations need at least two independent entrapment protection means in each direction and at least two warning signs. The Door and Access Systems Manufacturers Association adds that a vehicular operator never drives a pedestrian gate, so a walk-in path needs its own gate. A gate manufacturer's safety summary also puts controls at least 6 ft from the gate.

Georgetown adds its own layers. Inside city limits the unified development code limits front yard fences to 4 ft with at least 50 percent transparency, and Sun City Texas perimeter gates usually need the Modifications Committee and a city permit. Texas 811 asks for notice before any post hole or trench, and a private power line to the gate may need a separate private locate at the owner's cost. Current rules are set by your city, so confirm them before you commit.

How We Install an Operator

The install runs in this order:

  1. Inspect: we check hinge play, post lean, leaf weight and the swing or slide path.
  2. Mount: the operator goes on a rigid bracket or post sized to the leaf, never on a flexing frame.
  3. Wire: power, controls and low-voltage sensor wiring are run to the manufacturer's layout.
  4. Set: we adjust limits and force settings so the gate stops on contact.
  5. Test: photo eyes and edge sensors are tested in both directions, then remotes and keypad.

East of I-35 the Blackland clay moves, so a post that has leaned gets reset 24 to 36 inches deep in concrete, sized to the soil on the lot, before a motor is hung on it. Every swing and slide leaf also gets gate catchers and positive travel stops.

Gate Operator Installation Cost in Georgetown

An operator added to a gate you own is estimated at $1,800 to $3,800 for each system, and leaf weight, the number of sensors and the distance to power move the price most.

Operator Types and Materials Pages

An operator drives a leaf, and the leaf decides the drive, so our pages on automatic driveway gates and steel gate installation cover the gates themselves, while solar gate operators cover a gate with no power run. Nadine in Steiner Ranch, in Rocky Ridge, chose a solar panel with dual-battery backup where trenching power is not practical, on a 12 ft double leaf.

Why Georgetown Owners Hire Us for Gate Operator

After 11 years and 1,412 projects across a 45-mile radius, we know that most callbacks on other crews' operators trace to a dragging leaf or a missing sensor, not the motor. Because of that, we fit monitored photo eyes plus edge sensors on every automatic gate, and the job is warrantied for 3 years on welds, hinge alignment, gate sag and gate travel.

Questions About Gate Operator Installation

How much does a gate operator installation cost in Georgetown?

An operator retrofit is estimated at $1,800 to $3,800 for each system, and the written quote we hand you is the final price.

How long does the install take?

Most retrofits need an estimated 4 to 8 hours on site, as Cyrus's Williams Drive gate did in an estimated 5 to 7 hours.

Can you add an operator to my old gate?

Yes, if the leaf moves freely by hand, and if it does not we fix the hinges or post first, as we did for Sebastian in Volente, who kept his original leaf.

Do I need photo eyes and edge sensors?

Yes, DASMA's guidance says most automatic gate installations need at least two independent entrapment protection means in each direction.

Will the gate still open without power?

Yes, every operator has a manual release, and in Leander and Lost Creek we can add a solar panel with dual-battery backup.

Do I need a permit?

Often the gate itself falls under city fence rules and Sun City Texas adds its Modifications Committee, so we check your address first.
