Steel Gates Built to Keep People Out

Our team provides security gates for residential and commercial properties, from a corner lot needing a see-through gate to a 200 ft perimeter run. Across 1,412 projects and 11 years, we have seen how a gate gets defeated, and we build each leaf to close those routes.

From the first look at the fence line to the final test of the latch, our team handles every part of the job. Serving Georgetown, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander and Sunset Valley, we send the same crew that measured the opening to build the leaf.

What Makes a Gate a Security Gate

A security gate is chosen by how it resists a person, and the look of the leaf comes second. Anti-climb steel panels have no horizontal rails to step on, spacing tight enough to block foot and hand holds, and a top detail that gives nothing to grab. The table compares the usual choices by how they hold up.

Xavier's yard on Jones Road in Sunset Valley was fenced with thin chain link that had been cut twice, so the gate was only as strong as the wire beside it. We built a 200 ft perimeter run of anti-climb steel panels with spacing under four inches, then hung a gate in the same panels with a hinge guard over the pivot. The job took an estimated 3 to 4 days at an estimated $11,500 to $15,000, and the owner can still see through the steel, which he required.

What Every Security Gate Includes

Steel Tubing Gauge & Wall Thickness
posts of 11-gauge to 3/16-inch, rails of 14-gauge and pickets of 16-gauge on everything we fabricate
Protective Coating & Finishing Process
Multi-stage wash, zinc-phosphate primer and electrostatic polyester powder coat, 3 to 5 mils thick
Corrosion Protection (Hot-Dip Galvanizing vs Pre-Galvanized)
G90 hot-dip galvanized tube on posts and hollow rails so rust cannot start from the inside
Post Footing Depth & Concrete Anchor Specifications
Posts set 24 to 36 inches deep in concrete, sized to the soil on the lot
Picket Spacing & Child/Pet Safety Gap
3.5 to 3.875 inches clear between pickets
Gate Hinge Heavy-Duty Load Rating & Bearings
Ball-bearing barrel hinges sized to the leaf weight
Automatic Gate Operator Drive & Motor Type
24V DC continuous-duty operators sized to the leaf
Entrapment Protection: Photo Eyes & Edge Sensors
Monitored photo eyes plus edge sensors on every automatic gate, tested against our entrapment checklist before we leave
Municipal Emergency Access Compliance
Knox key switch or Opticom receiver on gates across fire lanes, as the fire marshal requires
Slope Racking vs Stepping Capability
Rackable panels follow a slope; steps are used where the grade is too steep to rack
Picket Finial & Security Top Style
Spear, triad, flare, fleur-de-lis or flat-top finials, chosen per lot and per city rule
Bottom Ground Clearance
2 to 3 inches of clearance above lawn grade, less over paved drives
Smart Access Control & Intercom System
Video intercom, keypad or phone entry with delivery codes
Gate Fall Protection & Mechanical Travel Stops
Gate catchers and positive travel stops on every swing and slide leaf
Solar Power & Battery Backup Readiness
Solar panel with dual-battery backup where trenching power is not practical

Gate Locks, Hinges and Top Details

Most forced gates fail at the hinge or the latch, so ball-bearing barrel hinges sized to the leaf weight and a protected latch get the attention. A hinge guard covers the pivot, and a welded latch cover keeps a tool from reaching the bolt. At the top, spear, triad, flare, fleur-de-lis or flat-top finials, chosen per lot and per city rule, leave no gap to climb through.

A security gate is priced by its width, the style of the leaf and the hardware on it. The table shows the welded ornamental fence, hand-forged wrought iron and operator added to a gate you own options we bid most, as estimated ranges.

Typical security gates terms: 50% deposit, a progress draw of 25 to 40%, and the final 10 to 25% at commissioning. These figures are budgetary estimates, subject to change, and the written quote we issue after the site visit sets the final price and the schedule.

Risks, Safety Rules and Sight Lines

A security gate that traps a person is a risk of its own, so protecting people shapes the build. DASMA's guidance says most installations need at least two independent entrapment protection means in each direction and that at least two warning signs are displayed, and a gate manufacturer's safety summary puts controls at least 6 ft from the gate. DASMA says a vehicle operator is for vehicles only, so pedestrians need a separate gate. Texas law requires 811 notice before excavation, and the owner pays for any private locate. Georgetown limits a front-yard fence to 4 ft with 50% transparency and keeps a 25 ft sight triangle clear at corners, so a taller security leaf may belong behind the front setback.

How a Security Gate Is Installed

The process runs in the same order each time:

  1. Walk: we look at the opening, the fence line and the weak points of the current gate.
  2. Fabricate: the leaf and posts are built, galvanized and powder-coated in our shop.
  3. Set: the 811 locate comes first, then posts go in on the marked line.
  4. Hang: the leaf, hinge guard, latch cover and any operator are installed.
  5. Test: we check the sensors, the stops and the latch with a live reverse test.

A builder gate with a thin pipe frame that sagged in the first year is a common reason owners call us, because a stronger leaf needs a stronger post.

Gate Materials and Matching Pages

A security leaf can be galvanized steel or hand-forged wrought iron. See steel gates for tube construction, wrought iron gates for forged work and gate access control for entry devices.

Security Gate Owners Here Trust Us With

Our owner walks the opening with you before a drawing is made, and the people who measure it in Georgetown, Round Rock or Cedar Park also build and hang the leaf. A crew returns to correct any fault in welds, hinge alignment, gate sag or gate travel under our 3-year workmanship warranty.

Security Gate Service Areas

We install inside a 45-mile radius of Georgetown, including Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, Sunset Valley and Lost Creek. Work off Brodie Lane and near the Old Town overlay has taught us how each review treats a street-facing leaf.

Gate Styles We Also Install

Owners who add a security gate often pair it with security fencing, an automatic driveway gate or gate service contracts that keep the sensors tested.

Security Gate Questions From Georgetown Owners

What makes a gate hard to climb?

Anti-climb steel panels have no horizontal rails to step on and spacing under four inches, so a foot or hand has nothing to hold.

How much does a security gate cost?

Welded ornamental fence runs an estimated $50 to $85 a linear foot, and the written quote after the visit sets the final price.

Can I still see through a security gate?

Yes. Anti-climb steel panels have open spacing, so the owner can look through the leaf, which a solid plate does not allow.

What is a hinge guard?

A hinge guard is a steel cover over the pivot on a gate like the one in Sunset Valley, and it stops the pin from being driven out or the leaf lifted off.

How long does installation take?

A fence and gate run takes an estimated 2 to 4 days on site, as with Xavier's yard in Sunset Valley.

Do automatic security gates need sensors?

Yes. Monitored photo eyes plus edge sensors stop and reverse the leaf on contact, and DASMA's guidance says most installations need at least two independent entrapment protection means in each direction.
